Shibori is the Japanese word for a variety of ways of embellishing textiles by shaping cloth and securing it before dyeing. This is done by folding, crumpling, stitching, plaiting, plucking or twisting. The cloth is secured by binding or knotting.

Loom controlled shibori is done by inserting an extra weft or warp which is pulled taut and removed once dyeing is complete
